INDIANA ROMA VOSS

Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis began as a long-term collaboration between myself and Dutch photographer Lois Cohen. We set out to challenge how female archetypes have historically been constructed and consumed.
I co-developed the concept by reframing iconic female figures from art history, religion, and popular culture through a contemporary lens, shifting them from objects of projection to subjects with agency. This approach became the foundation of the project and informed every decision across casting, styling, and location.
We drew

from archetypes such as Venus, the Madonna, and Barbie, selecting figures that had been flattened or misrepresented over time. Each character was reinterpreted in collaboration with the women inhabiting them, allowing contradiction, individuality, and autonomy to shape the final image.
Metamorphosis functions as both an editorial body of work and a manifesto for how we choose to operate within the fashion industry. It sets a clear standard for inclusivity, representation, and authorship, and defines the kind of imagery we believe should exist in the contemporary visual landscape.
